Unpublishing my old erotica short stories and Noble Romance Publishing
Before I wrote The Witching Pen, I was writing short erotica stories. I have a soft spot for [both reading and writing] erotica in my heart, and always will. At the time, I thought I'd carry on, but The Witching Pen and its sequels took off, I found that I was much more suited to writing hot, sexy urban fantasy / paranormal romance - I also found I was suited to self-publishing - and I haven't looked back.
Up until now, I have left my erotica stories published and in distribution, one of which is published with Noble Romance Publishing, and three others are self-published. Certainly my self-published short stories still make me money even though I never promote them.
Since I no longer write erotica, I've had it on my mind for a while to unpublish them. The time has now come to do this - my decision was also spurred on by the following:
On 24th July, 2012, Jill Noble walked out of Noble Romance Publishing suddenly and without prior warning. Jill's letter / announcement was sent to the Author's Loop and this was her only correspondence on the subject.
Things went from bad to worse, with the private Author's Loop being closed down leaving authors disbanded.... (for everything that happened next there are various links at the bottom of this blog)
On the subject of Noble Romance itself, I have nothing to say or add in this post (click the links at the bottom of this blog, read the comments on those posts, and make up your own mind).
I do not know if I'll get my rights back to my one short story with them before my contract term with them expires. For me, it doesn't matter as I don't write the genre anymore, or under my erotica pen names. (Obviously this does matter because it shouldn't be happening at all - certainly not in this way - what I mean is, that it doesn't matter to me in an emotional sense because I've let go of my story.) But my heart goes out to the authors that have many stories published with them, and indeed all authors published with Noble - this is not an easy time at all.
Apart from the one story I have with Noble, which I can't touch right now, I shall be taking down my three short stories that I self-published - it'll take about six to eight weeks before they're off all sites.
For those of you that were introduced to my writing via my erotica, a huge thank you for sticking around :) I know that my current work is not erotica as such, but hopefully you find it sexy enough to stick it out with me. For those of you stumbling onto this site who are new to my work, check out DiannaHardy.com for a taste of what I write.
I wish all authors caught up in the "Noble Romance Upheaval" the very best. And I hope that Noble Romance Publishing itself gets to wherever it is they intend to go as a company, in the smoothest way possible for all.

ReplyDeleteNo problem - I'm just sorry it's not more of an insight, but I just had that one story published and sort of emotionally let it go real quick soon after because my writing went a different way. I just hope everything gets sorted out as smoothly as possible for everyone. x
