New YA Series and Free YA Reads.

No, I wasn't going to write any YA books at all, but then the muse hit me with an idea and a plot....

My young adult books kick off with stories that were actually written when I was a young adult. But first, I'm going to briefly mention the new series that I'll begin to write soon, The Elementals. The first book, The Rush: Master Of Water, is due out in the middle of 2012. This will be my first foray into the world of YA fiction as an adult writer, so it's all a big experiment in my mind -- we'll see how it goes. I'll be writing it around the adult paranormal romances that I already write.

About my childhood writing: From The Pen Of A Child comprises of three stories that I wrote between the ages of ten and fifteen. I've decided to publish them and make them available for FREE, to support and encourage young writers to follow their passion. Very few edits have been made to the original manuscripts, so you can see exactly how my "writing brain" worked at those ages. Feel free to enjoy them and / or verbally tear them apart -- discuss them, analyse them -- if you're a child that loves to write, they are there for your inspiration and learning. These stories are not outstanding literature, but coming from the pen of a child, they're not bad.

I remember reading all the S.E. Hinton books when I was around fourteen (Tex was my favourite), and I was so inspired by the fact that she had been a seventeen year old, published writer -- why couldn't I be too? Well, as it happened, I only got a few poems published in small print magazines -- but that was then, this is now (to quote the title of one of her books). Online publishing has made it possible to write, even just part-time, and still earn some money -- there's a publishing revolution afoot that supports the ideals of creativity, self-expression and being the writer that you want to be. There's never been a better time to be a reader or a writer.

So if you're a budding author, keep at it and don't give up. Enjoy the stories as much as my childhood self enjoyed writing them. Go here to see them.

Lastly, I'm on Facebook and Twitter daily, so do join me on there if you're interested in the most up to date news on all my writing.
